Medical Assistant

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Escorts patients from waiting room to examination rooms. Provides patients with appropriate examination apparel
  • Performs all necessary intake and documents information including vital signs, current medications and allergies, current PCP and pharmacy, etc.
  • Transcribes and updates information in patient record as needed to be in compliance
  • Ensure that appropriate trays are set up and in place for minor procedures
  • Oversees efficient and clean turn over of exam rooms and equipment
  • Contacts pharmacies with new prescriptions or refills as needed
  • Provide instructions to patients regarding essential information related to use of braces, bandages, dressings, etc. prior to departure
  • Performs clerical work associated with patient care, prepares and organizes patient charts for assigned providers
  • Handle all pre-authorizations and patient referrals
  • Monitor and order inventory of exam room supplies needed in order to run the patient rooms
  • Scan patient paperwork
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by Manager or other authorized executive or manager.

Required Experience, Education & Licensure:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma, (or GED) and two (2) years of prior experience working as a Medical Assistant in an office, ambulatory surgical center or hospital environment
  • Certification as a CMA is preferred
  • A strong working knowledge of medical terminology is required
  • Medical Assistants must consistently demonstrate superior customer service, interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with physicians, staff, visitors, patients and family members
  • Must be highly organized with exceptional attention to detail
